RESPOND ADVICE HUBS
QNUSHYO & the swedish research institute in istanbul | TURKEY
As of December 2017, Qnushyo has been collaborating as an “advice hub” within the EC-funded Horizon 2020 project RESPOND
For the advice hub sub-project, Qnushyo will work together with the Swedish Research Institute Istanbul. Responsibilities of Qnushyo as an advice hub includes:
Providing a safe space for refugees (mainly for women and children).
Organization of capacity-building and empowerment activities to improve social integration of refugees.
Providing guidance for handling challenging situations (i.e. school enrolments, access to social, political and civil services).
Contributing to social cohesion in Yedikule neighbourhood.

January 2019
Movie workshop
Qnushyo Center | Target Group: Age 5 to 15.
Various educational movies will be held to improve children’s empathy, self-confidence, creative thinking and self-expression skills. These sessions will be monitored by volunteers and it is expected that volunteers to trigger a debate about the movie – topic, effects, main synopsis, characters.
February 2019
Turkish language club
Qnushyo Center | Target Group: Age 5 to 15.
Objective: To develop speaking, reading, listening and writing skills for most common situations. Most critical skills for children is currently speaking; therefore, “speaking clubs” will be held regularly. An interesting topic will be introduced and children will be expected to tell their opinion about it. Improvements will be recorded as before and after assessments.

Music workshop
Qnushyo Center | Target group: Age 10 to 13.
Participants will be trained for keyboard playing. Also a choir will be formed and children will be taught how to sing with a choir and how to behave as a choir member. This activity will be helpful for children to develop trust to other choir members, have respect to one another and build self-confidence as participants.

Drama workshop
Qnushyo Center | Target group: Age 10 to 13.
This workshop will focus on self-expression via drama and role-playing activities. The main purpose of the employed activities will be developing empathy for bullying and peer victimization. Within this workshop a famous film by Abbas Kiarostami titled “Two Solutions for One Problem” will be watched and debated.

Objective: To improve children’s psychomotor abilities.

Different culinary cultures are introduced to the participants.

Reading day
Qnushyo Center | Target group: Age 7 to 10.
In the book day, children are responsible to bring a book from their home for reviewing and talking about it. Then, one of the volunteers read the book to children and trigger a debate about the topic.
August 2019
Needlework workshop
Qnushyo Center | Target group: Women older than 18.
Objective: To develop occupational skills of women who are willing to participate the workshop. This workshop may positively contribute to home economy afterwards.
September 2019
Nature workshop
Qnushyo Center and Playground | Target group: Age 5 to 7 and 8 to 15.
Objective: This workshop will include different activities to trigger the curiosity and creativity of the children to explore the environment around them. The activities within this workshop will focus on problem-solving skills, creative thinking and developing cognitive and motor functions of participants. Volunteers will be responsible to monitor and guide children when necessary and try to keep the participation at highest level as possible to help children to develop self-confidence and the sense of autonomy.

Painting/Drawing workshop
Qnushyo Center | Target group: Age 5 to 7 and 8 to 15.
Objective: To teach children to express themselves via painting, drawing or clay art. This workshop will include different materials ranged from papers with various types and colors, paints from different types – watercolor, oilpainting, clay, play dough. The workshop will function as a form of art therapy for children who struggle to express themselves.
November 2019
English workshop
Qnushyo Center | Target group: Age 5 to 7 and 8 to 15.
Objective: This workshop will include interactive activities to develop vocabulary and basic grammatical activities of children. The workshop will be conducted via various types of games, song contests and handcraft activities.
December 2019
Computer workshop
Location: Qnushyo center | Target group: Age 10 to 15
Objective: Earning basic computer and MS Office skills
